Just a moment
Almost there, hang tight
Working on it
This won't take long
Making sure everything's in order
Putting it all together
Good things take a sec
Processing your request
One sec, making it worth the wait
Thanks for hanging in there
GITAM School of Technology is a constituent institution of GITAM Deemed to be University, operating across multiple campuses in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Hyderabad (Telangana), and Bengaluru (Karnataka), India. Established initially under the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) in 1980, the School of Technology serves as the engineering and technical education division of the university. The main campus in Visakhapatnam is situated along the coast of the Bay of Bengal, while the off-campuses in Hyderabad and Bengaluru were added later to expand technical education across southern India. The institution functions under the administrative umbrella of GITAM, which was declared a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, in 2007.
The institution holds an 'A++' grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body under the UGC. Additionally, several undergraduate engineering programs offered by the GITAM School of Technology are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The programs are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). As a constituent unit of a deemed-to-be university, the school operates with academic autonomy, allowing it to design its own curriculum, evaluation systems, and academic regulations in accordance with national educational policy guidelines.
GITAM School of Technology offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programs in various branches of engineering and technology. The primary undergraduate offering is the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.), with specializations in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, and Data Science. The school also offers Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degrees across specialized disciplines such as VLSI Design, Computer Science and Technology, Structural Engineering, and Thermal Engineering. Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs are conducted across all major engineering departments, focusing on both fundamental and applied research.
The academic structure is divided into specific academic departments, each managed by dedicated faculty members and departmental heads. The curriculum incorporates a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), enabling students to select elective courses across different disciplines, including interdisciplinary options in management, humanities, and basic sciences. The instructional methodology combines theoretical lectures, laboratory practicals, project-based learning, and mandatory industry internships. Assessment is conducted through continuous internal evaluations and end-semester examinations managed by the university's evaluation wing.
Facilities across the Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru campuses include departmental laboratories, central computing centers, specialized research equipment, and university libraries. The libraries provide access to print volumes, national and international journals, electronic databases, and digital learning resources. Computing infrastructure includes campus-wide high-speed internet connectivity, software suites relevant to engineering design and simulation, and dedicated server rooms. Campus accommodation is available through separate residential hostels for male and female students, managed by internal administrative wardens.
Research activities at the GITAM School of Technology are supported by internal seed funding as well as grants from government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The school maintains research centers and laboratories focused on areas like Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, materials science, renewable energy systems, and environmental engineering. Faculty members and research scholars publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and file patents related to technological developments.
Career development services are organized through the university's dedicated training and placement cell. The cell conducts aptitude training, soft skills development, technical refresher sessions, and mock interviews for students. On-campus recruitment drives are scheduled annually, where companies from the information technology, core engineering, consulting, and manufacturing sectors participate. The institution also maintains alumni networks across various industries, facilitating mentorship programs, guest lectures, and industry-academia interactions.
Extracurricular and co-curricular infrastructure includes sports complexes, auditoriums, student activity centers, and technical clubs. Student branches of professional organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institution of Engineers (India), and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) operate within the campus. These bodies organize technical competitions, workshops, hackathons, and conferences throughout the academic year, providing platform-level exposure to current technological trends and collaborative engineering practices.
