Université Laval is a public research university located in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Established in 1663 by François de Montmorency-Laval, the first Bishop of Quebec, as the Séminaire de Québec, it was granted a royal charter in 1852 by Queen Victoria, officially becoming Université Laval. This makes it the oldest center of higher education in Canada and the first French-language university in North America.
