About Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy & Technology Management

Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy & Technology Management (SPPSPTM) is a constituent school of SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). Located in Vile Parle, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, the institution operates under the umbrella of the Deemed-to-be University status granted to NMIMS. The school was established in 2006 to provide academic programs in pharmaceutical sciences, integrating technical management training with core pharmacy curricula. Its operations are overseen by the university administration, adhering to the standards and governance protocols established by NMIMS.

The academic structure at SPPSPTM covers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Key programs include the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), the B.Pharm + MBA (Pharma-Tech) integrated course, and the Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) with various specializations such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance, Pharmaceutical Technology, Industrial Pharmacy, and Regulatory Affairs. The school also offers a Ph.D. program in Pharmaceutical Sciences. These courses are designed to align with the regulatory requirements of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Regarding accreditation and institutional status, the school operates under the NMIMS Deemed-to-be University framework, which holds an 'A+' grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The pharmacy programs are recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India. The curriculum is developed to bridge the gap between laboratory research and industrial application, focusing on drug development, formulation science, and pharmaceutical management practices. The integrated B.Pharm + MBA program is a specific focus of the school, intended to prepare graduates for roles in both the technical and commercial sectors of the pharmaceutical industry.

The campus facilities at the Vile Parle location include specialized laboratories equipped for pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and analysis. The infrastructure features research centers, computer laboratories, and access to the central library resources provided by NMIMS, which include digital databases, academic journals, and textbooks. The classrooms are equipped with audiovisual aids to support lecture-based learning. Students also have access to common campus amenities, including administrative offices, seminar halls, and spaces for academic collaboration, as part of the broader NMIMS university infrastructure.

The academic approach at SPPSPTM emphasizes research-led instruction. Faculty members engage in projects covering areas such as novel drug delivery systems, synthetic chemistry, and pharmacological evaluation. The school maintains industry-academia interfaces through guest lectures, industrial visits, and internship placements. These interactions are intended to provide students with exposure to current manufacturing standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and regulatory submission processes. The school’s proximity to Mumbai, a hub for the Indian pharmaceutical industry, supports these connections with corporate organizations.

Admission to the programs offered by SPPSPTM is conducted primarily through the NMIMS-NMAT or university-specific entrance examinations, depending on the level of study. The selection process evaluates candidates based on their performance in these tests, followed by academic merit and personal interviews where applicable. The institution follows the academic calendar and credit-based evaluation system implemented by NMIMS, which includes internal assessments, practical examinations, and end-semester theory examinations. The school’s administrative policies regarding student conduct, scholarships, and academic progression are consistent with the general regulations of the parent university.

The school contributes to the pharmaceutical field through the publication of research papers in peer-reviewed journals and participation in national and international conferences. By focusing on a blend of pharmacy education and management principles, SPPSPTM aims to prepare students for careers in research and development, quality control, production, regulatory affairs, and pharmaceutical marketing. As a constituent unit of NMIMS, the school participates in the university’s broader initiatives, including placement drives and alumni networking, providing students with access to a wide range of industry contacts and career development resources.
